About AlaVINE
AlaVINE is a free resource available 24/7 for cime victims and concerned citizens in Alabama.
Victims can...
- Get information about criminal cases and custody status using telephone, internet, or email.
- Register to be notified immediately in the event of an offender's release, escape, transfer, or court appearance.
- Inquire about the current status of an offender.
This process is possible by accessing VINELink, an online version of Victim Information and Notification Everyday.
How It Works
- AlaVINE provides service through Victims Information Notification Exchange (VINE).
- VINE communicates with jail and prison booking systems in near real-time, transmitting updated information to the Appriss Data Network.
- Crime victims and the general public can access information by calling a local, toll-free number (1-877-846-3425) or by logging onto https://www.vinelink.com, any time of the day or night.
- Victims can inquire whether an offender is held in jail as well as the facility's location.
- Users can register to be notified immediately of a change in the offender's status, such as release, transfer, or escape.
- When a notification is triggered, VINE automatically calls the number or numbers the victim has provided.
- Calls continue for a designated period of time or until the victim enters a four-digit PIN.
How To...
Register
By Phone
- Call 1-877-846-3425 from a touch-tone phone and follow the instructions.
Online
- Go to https://www.vinelink.com.
- Select state where offender is located.
- Search for offender either by name (first and last needed) or idendification number.
- Follow the instructions to register.
Getting Notified
- If the offender is in jail, you can get notified about their release, escape, transfer, or court appearance.
- Enter the phone number (with area code) where you want to be reached followed by the pound (#) key.
- When AlaVINE asks, make up and enter a 4-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) code which will be easy for you to remember.
- Write the PIN number down and keep it in a safe place.
AlaVINE will ask for the PIN code when it calls you. - When AlaVINE calls, listen to the message, then enter your PIN when asked. Entering the PIN lets AlaVINE know that you got the call, and it will stop the service from calling you again.
Benefits of AlaVINE
- Around-the-clock support -- a staff of live operators to assist victims and technicians who monitor all VINE systems.
- Saves taxpayers money by eliminating the need to manually notify victims, allowing staff to focus on their core responsibilities.
- Provides life-saving services to victims at no cost.
- Helps satisfy most states' legislative requirement for victim notification.
- Depending upon community, victims can interface with VINE in multiple languages.
- VINE generates about 700,000 notification calls each month.
